Moonwalk, Yellow

Andy Warhol
Moonwalk, Yellow, 1987.
Screenprint on Lenox Museum Board.
Printed signature at the lower right margin and signed certificate of authenticity on verso.

Moonwalk was one of the last works Warhol created before his death in 1987. It was intended to be part of a portfolio titled “TV” that would depict important images from the history of television in America. However, “Moonwalk” was the only composition from the series that was actually printed. The work is based on a photograph taken by Neil Armstrong during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. However, Warhol did not simply reproduce the image. He combined two photographs of Buzz Aldrin and the American flag to create his unique composition.
