For all of Elton John’s greatest songs, the lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin. This unique collaboration often means that Elton is singing intensely personal words directed toward Bernie. A notable example is “Tiny Dancer.” Originally, the song was inspired by Bernie’s experiences as a single man in Los Angeles, but when he finished the lyrics, he was dating his future first wife, Maxine Feibelman. Consequently, he retroactively declared that the “Tiny Dancer” was her, which resulted in Elton singing a love song to his friend’s fiancée.
