David Gerstein’s 3D metal wall sculptures are more than just striking works of art; they’re the result of a meticulous, multi-step process that blends precision engineering with expressive craftsmanship. Each piece begins with laser-cut metal, carefully shaped into layered compositions with exacting detail, which can feature up to six distinct layers. The sculpture is then screen-printed with a custom base coat tailored to the design. After this foundation is set, Gerstein adds vibrant color by hand, using acrylic-based paints specially formulated for metal. A high-grade clear varnish is then applied to seal and protect the surface. Finally, the artwork is cured in an industrial oven at high temperatures, bonding the paint permanently to the metal. This oven-curing step not only locks in the color but also ensures the piece is UV-resistant and weatherproof, making these dynamic sculptures suitable for both indoor and outdoor display.
