Donald Sultan
Blue Wall Poppy, Oct 15, 2024
Wall Sculpture, shaped aluminum with acrylic polyurethane paint and black flock.
Edition of 30.

Donald Sultan’s Blue Wall Poppy, Oct 15, 2024 transforms his iconic poppy into a striking contemporary wall sculpture. The brilliant blue flower is reduced to a bold, organic silhouette with a contrasting black center, creating the graphic simplicity and visual impact that have become signatures of Sultan’s work.

Moving beyond the traditional boundaries of painting and printmaking, Sultan gives the familiar flower a physical, sculptural presence on the wall. The combination of an industrial material, saturated color, and an organic botanical form reflects a recurring tension throughout his career: the relationship between nature and the man-made world. Elegant yet playful, Blue Wall Poppy makes a dramatic statement while remaining unmistakably Sultan.
