Red Wall Poppy, Oct 15, 2024
Wall Sculpture, shaped aluminum with acrylic polyurethane paint and black flock.
Edition of 30.

Donald Sultan’s Red Wall Poppy, Oct 15, 2024 transforms the artist’s celebrated poppy motif into a bold contemporary wall sculpture. The brilliant red flower, punctuated by a deep black center, is reduced to the strong organic silhouette and graphic simplicity that have become signatures of Sultan’s work. The contrast between intense color, simplified form, and sculptural dimension gives the work an immediate presence on the wall.

Flowers and still-life subjects have played an important role throughout Sultan’s career, yet his interpretations are distinctly modern. By combining imagery drawn from nature with industrial materials and highly refined surfaces, Sultan creates works that move between representation and abstraction. Red Wall Poppy captures that contrast beautifully, appearing at once familiar, monumental, playful, and sophisticated.
