Donald Sultan
Yellow Wall Poppy, Oct 15, 2024
Wall Sculpture, shaped aluminum with acrylic polyurethane paint and black flock.
Edition of 30.

Sultan has repeatedly explored the relationship between organic subjects and industrial materials, reducing familiar flowers and still-life forms to powerful silhouettes that move between representation and abstraction. In Yellow Wall Poppy, the simplified shape, saturated yellow surface, and contrasting black center make the flower immediately recognizable while giving it a distinctly modern, sculptural presence. The result is playful and sophisticated, bringing color, scale, and dimension to the wall while retaining the graphic strength associated with Sultan’s Poppies.
