Ex Nihilo, Fragment no 6

Frederick Hart
Ex Nihilo, Fragment No. 6, 2006.
Cast sculpture in bronze.
Signed and numbered in the mold.
Mounted on a granite base.

“Ex Nihilo, Fragment No. 6” was cast directly from the original plaster of the full-scale “Ex Nihilo.” Tom Wolfe called “Ex Nihilo” the most important American religious commission of the twentieth century. During the inaugural announcement of September 29, 2001, this unprecedented artistic opportunity was revealed to the public on the Washington National Cathedral steps. Eight Figures and eight Fragments were cast as part of the Washington Nation Cathedral Collection of Frederick Hart’s “Ex Nihilo.” ©Frederick Hart.

“I saw Ex Nihilo (Out of Nothingness) as a single expression of creation, as the metamorphosis of divine spirit and energy. The figures emerge from the nothingness of chaos, caught in the moment of eternal transformation–the majesty and mystery of divine force in a state of becoming.” — Frederick Hart.
