Espriu, Miró
Joan Miro
Espriu Miró, 1975 (D. 877) (C.197).
Original etching and aquatint in colors with carborundum on Guarro wove paper.
Hand-signed and numbered in pencil at the lower margins.
Printed by J.J. Torralba, Barcelona. Publisher, Sala Gaspar, Barcelona.
Literature: Dupin 877. Cramer 197.
The artwork is part of a larger series of prints created by Miró to illustrate the book Espriu Miró, a collection of poems by the Catalan poet Salvador Espriu. The series reflects Miró’s deep admiration for Espriu’s work and his desire to create visual counterparts to the poet’s words.
Miró transforms words into visual rhythm through bold black gestures and bursts of vibrant color that echo the lyrical intensity of Espriu’s poetry. Beyond its visual impact, Espriu Miró stands as a cultural homage. Created during a time when the Catalan expression was suppressed in Spain. This significant work combines Miró’s technical brilliance with his deep cultural identity, making it a valued addition to any serious collection of modern art.
