Dock of the Bay

Mackenzie Thorpe
Dock of The Bay, 2015.
Limited edition cast sculpture in bronze mounted on a granite base.
Monogrammed signature and the edition number are found at the base of the piece.
Edition of 35.

Inspired by the famous song, Mackenzie Thorpe’s “Dock of the Bay” is a bronze sculpture of a small child sitting on the edge of a dock. The child is wearing a dark hooded duffle coat and big, sturdy shoes. He is holding a heart in his hands. The child does not have a face, as he is meant to represent every child. The sculpture is realistic and detailed, and the child’s pose conveys contemplation and wonder. The sculpture is a reminder of the innocence and potential of childhood. It is also a symbol of hope and love. (Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay” by Otis Redding was inspired by Sausalito, California, which Mackenzie Thorpe visited several times.
