Tahiti’s dramatic skies inspire the Partly Cloudy, Morning Fly Series; I create paintings that go beyond typical landscapes. I use Snoopy, the flying ace, to showcase the beauty and power of these ever-changing clouds. My paintings combine the playful Snoopy with titles like “Partly Cloudy, Morning Fly, ” to hint at the real subject: the persistent housefly, a daily companion in the tropics, set against a backdrop of Tahiti’s magnificent clouds. The titles, starting with “6:00 Morning Fly,” playfully track the fly’s (and Snoopy’s) adventures throughout the day. Partly Cloudy 7:30 Morning Fly More importantly, the Tahitian clouds that appear first thing in the morning, with “Ace,” can theatrically offer everything, from calm to drama until the last light of one beautiful tropical cloud-filled day. “— Tom Everhart.
