The son of the inventor Daedalus had wings made of wax and feathers, which allowed him to fly. His father warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, but in Icarus’ complacency and hubris, he flew too high, and his wings melted. Created during one of Salvador Dalí’s most important printmaking periods, Flight and Fall of Icarus belongs to the Mythology Suite, a series published by Pierre Argillet between 1963 and 1965. Combining engraving, drypoint, and hand-coloring, these works showcase Dalí’s fascination with classical themes and surreal symbolism. Their rarity and exceptional craftsmanship continue to make them highly desirable among collectors of twentieth-century modern masters.

The Mythology Suite consists of 16 mixed-media prints incorporating engraving and drypoint etching, with hand-coloring, measuring 22 x 30 inches each.
