Salvador Dalí’s Hen Women, also known by its French title Femmes Poules, is an original etching from the artist’s celebrated Faust suite. Created in 1968, the series was inspired by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s legendary drama and, in particular, the mysterious world of Walpurgis Night. Dalí transforms Goethe’s story of temptation, desire, and the supernatural into a distinctly Surrealist vision filled with fluid lines and fantastic hybrid figures.

In Hen Women, human and animal forms appear to merge, reflecting Dalí’s enduring fascination with metamorphosis, dreams, and the subconscious. Expressive draftsmanship and unexpected imagery give the composition a sense of movement and psychological tension. Published by Pierre Argillet, Dalí’s longtime collaborator, this signed and numbered work offers collectors an imaginative connection between European literature and one of the 20th century’s most influential artists.
