The Cosmonaut (Le Cosmonaute) (1969) is an original hand-colored copper etching by Salvador Dalí from the celebrated Les Hippies portfolio. Published by Pierre Argillet, Dalí’s close friend and longtime publisher, the series was inspired by Argillet’s travels through India during the height of the “Love and Peace” movement. At the same time, the late 1960s were defined by another extraordinary journey: humanity’s first ventures into space. In The Cosmonaut, Dalí merges these two defining moments of the era, spiritual exploration and cosmic discovery, into a dreamlike surrealist composition. Hand-signed and numbered in pencil, this museum-quality etching reflects Dalí’s fascination with imagination, innovation, and the limitless possibilities of human consciousness.
