Peep Hole No 6
Tom Everhart
Peep Hole No. 6, 2014.
Original acrylic painting on medium-density fiberboard.
Hand-signed on verso.
This artwork is framed and wall-ready.
Tom Everhart’s “Peep Holes” series is a collection of paintings that use the Peanuts characters to critique modern surveillance and the data broker industry. The diamond-shaped artworks are painted on MDF boards (similar to a door) and framed to resemble a door’s peephole, complete with small cutouts.
The frame becomes a crucial aspect of the visual presentation of the art itself. It is because the diamond-shaped work is placed inside a square, horizontally / vertically positioned frame, that the painting appears like an actual diamond cutout in a door to peep through. With the production of the “Peep Holes” paintings, I find I am no longer the painter, but part of the audience looking through the peep hole of the door to my studio, witnessing moments of daily life in the artist’s studio. – Tom Everhart
